My thesis focused on practical use of skills. Rather than a paper thesis that would be put on a shelf and forgotten about, I was urged to create a physical object that demonstrated skills that would be a nice addition to my portfolio. I made the decision to make a Thestral from Harry Potter. I didn't want to simply carve a horse that could do nothing more than stand there. So, I added electronics into the mix. This meant I had to think through my carving choices and in what stages I could put it all together, as well as using my newest skill of wiring and electronics. The finished product not only has glowing LED eyes, but a speaker, and a control box that can be set up to do any number of actions with light and sound.
